Graduation Requirements

'Tis the season to be scheduling... and do so well, you must also be in the know with the State of Ohio Graduation Requirements! The state has revamped its diploma requirements so please use the included link for a comprehensive overview of requirements. Currently, there are three pillars needed to earn your high school diploma; Credits, Competency Benchmarks, Readiness Seals.

Pillar #1: Credits
Below is a table that overviews the general State of Ohio curriculum requirements. Hudson High School is proud to offer a diverse and extensive curriculum to its students. Unlike many high schools, our students have significant choice in how they achieve these components. Checking these boxes at HHS can, and should, be a process unique to each student.

Pillar #2: Competency Benchmarks
The State of Ohio introduced End of Course exams a number of years ago. The application of those tests has gone through several transitions but currently, the scores apply to Competency Benchmarks and Readiness Seals. The Competency Benchmarks are tied specifically to the Algebra I and the English Language Arts 10 End of Course exams. A passing score on all EOC exams is 700, the Competency Benchmark is 684. Students must earn a 684 to "check the box" for the Algebra I and ELA10 EOC exams.

Pillar #3: Readiness Seals
The State of Ohio is dedicated to graduating well-rounded students. To highlight the many things students are accomplishing, they have created the Readiness Seals. There are twelve seals available and students must earn 2 seals to meet the graduation requirement. Below is a graphic of how Hudson interprets and awards the Readiness Seals.

Conversation Starters:
  • Ask your son/daughter to review their Explorer Graduation Plan. This is a curriculum map that they are working to complete with their school Counselor.
  • What Readiness Seals make the most sense for your child to work toward?
  • Have you checked in SchooLinks to see your child's EOC scores for tests that have already completed?
